Judges' comments: Strong category with the winners all showing superior compositional skills. Harvest Moon is beautiful but maybe could do with a little tightening on the crop. Loves the lines in the Time Sculpture and runner features, and the chaotic composition of the swimmer feature.

BELLEVILLE, Ont. (18/09/2013) — The "harvest moon" shines behind lights fixtures on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 in Belleville, Ont. The "harvest moon" is the full moon closest to autumnal equinox and which the moon is at its brightest and roundest. The Chinese would celebrate mid-autumn festival on this day as well. NEWS
Judges' comments: Yikes, does there have to be a winner? Very weak category, really no news entered at all. Super weak.

PORTRAIT
Judges' comments: Pretty strong category, lots and lots to choose from. I loved Guillame’s strong graphical sense in his two photos, his Captain photo could easily have been a Christopher Pratt painting (look him up!). I really liked the three boxer portraits, and the story telling of the two honourable mention photos.

1. Guillaume Nolet
KINGSTON, Ont. (18/09/13) - Stephen Steels has been a Master Captain on numerous ships for 25 years. The boat  he currently operates for the 1000 Island Cruises in Kingston is the 303 tons 'Island Queen III' . "Water has given me both great pleasure and great misery, has I have experience both joy and death in my many years of navigation, says Steels.  Photo by Guillaume Nolet

"Now that I am middle-aged, I find the weather events remind me of earlier times of my life, like the earliest lightning storm in my memory. My mother would tell me not to worry, it's just the angels bowling." Photo by Guillaume Nolet

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. (21/09/13)--Holly Mosienko, 51, who owns Body Piercing by Holly in Peterborough has multiple scarifications done. "The majority of people like it, think it's kind of different and unusual. The odd person doesn't like it at all. My mother was very upset at me. The one on my shoulder, I was going through an awful lot at the time. It would definitely be kind of like a midlife crisis, but it meant a lot to me at the same time. I was reading the Da Vinci Code at the time and I read a lot about how powerful the star symbol was and how ancient it is and how it's been interpreted in different ways. And that it has strong feminine background to it." Photo by Sarah Vissers.
SPORTS
Judges' comments: Some great peak action photos and a few others that took some good chances. Justin’s action photos are very strong, and the motorcycle pan worked very well. As mentioned previously I loved the football dancing – but maybe that would have had a better chance in feature? Just because it involves sports doesn’t mean it has to be a sports photo.

MULTI-PICTURE
Judges' comments: Only three choices, but at least they are all worthy of mention. Story narrative is a little weak overall, but all three have some really nice photos in them. I loved the football team dancing. As mentioned to Hannah already the portraits could have been more effective with more interesting lighting and less dirty background, the content is there though.
