NEWS:


1. Tom Hicken   

Paramedics rushed to aid a bicyclist hit by a car on King St. and Church St. in Toronto on Saturday, Jan. 21. Because the victim’s body was lying across the streetcar tracks, traffic was delayed. 
 




2. Dan Pearce 



Stan Hart lays in his box for the “Sleep Out! So Others Can Sleep In” fundraiser on Jan. 27, 2012. Participants stayed over night in Belleville’s Market Square to raise money for local homeless shelters. 


3. Justin Tang


Mohammad Shafia looks back at reporters and members of the public as he is escorted from Frontenac Courthouse in Kingston, Ontario after being found guilty of killing first wife Rona Mohammad Amir and daughters Zainab, 19, Sahar, 17, and Geeti Shafia, 13. Shafia, along with wife Tooba Yahya and son Hamed are each charged with four counts of first degree murder and for the deaths of the four women on June 30, 2009.

Deanna Cole, 39, has been the owner of Ripper, a German Shepherd, for 11 years. "My husband wanted him," she says. "His grandfather had two Rippers, so this is the third in our family." The couple found an ad for dogs in the paper, and picked Ripper up when he was five weeks old.  


2. Rachel Psutka


Sam Hester stands in one of the dramatically painted rooms in her house on 23 Ave in Calgary on January 6, 2012. Hester is a cartoonist and painter passionate about her neighborhood, which is undergoing an artistic rejuvenation after years of being known as a poor area.

Charlie Perry, director of DeMille Books, is facing eviction at the end of June prior to the demolition of the former Calgary Herald building on 6 Avenue southwest. Seen here on January 5, Perry is set to lose the location where the store has been located for the past three years.

Kayleb Meyers, 5, eyes his spot just before launching a shot into the goal on his backyard ice rink. With a helping hand from his father, Jeriamah Meyers, the duo have constructed an elaborate hockey rink behind their home in Belleville, Ont where they hope to hone their skills during the winter months. The pair have also entered the rink into Home Depot's Back Yard Ice Rink where they hope to best last year's disappointing third place finish and be crowned "Best Rink".




3. Justin Tang



A youngster takes a breather between tobogganing runs. With some 3.5 cm of snow falling on the Kingston area on Thursday and Friday, tobogganing enthusiasts braved the -15ÂșC temperatures over the weekend to slide, spin and tumble down Fort Henry's steep slope.




SPORTS: 


1. Melchizedek Maquiso 



Hockey participants battle for the puck during the town's 2nd Mill Pond Hockey tournament.  The tournament is part of Stirling's quest to being named Hockeyville for 2012.

2. Marta Iwanek 



Sarnia Sting goalie JP Anderson prepares to block a shot from the Belleville Bulls during a game at the Yardmen Arena. The Bulls won 5-4 after the game was decided in a shoot out. 


3. Tom Hicken




Belleville Bull forward Jordan Mayer makes a wrap-around play against Sarnia Sting goalie JP Anderson.  Mayer helped even out the odds for his team, scoring a goal in the second period of the game.  The Bulls went on to win the game, collecting a 5-4 shootout win over the Sarnia Sting.
